Earlier this month a former child star was arrested in Arizona, near Phoenix, on suspicion of drunk driving. It’s a trend that is, unfortunately, not going away anytime soon – former child stars who’ve made the poor decision to drive under the influence, in spite of their fame.
Aside from the one recently arrested in Arizona, we’ve taken a look at eight other former child stars who have outgrown their child star roles, but made headlines due to their DUIs.
Marcus Paulk was the one arrested recently in Maricopa County, AZ and recently pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of DUI. He’s famous for his role as Myles Mitchell on the 90s sitcom show, Moesha.
Probably the most infamous of former child stars is Lindsay Lohan, due to her wild habits and long arrest record. Among the Parent Trap star’s offenses are DUIs stretching back to 2007. Despite her misgivings, she’s gone through rehab and seems to be back on track.
Orlando starred as Eddie Thomas in That’s So Raven back in the early 2000s. While the show ended in 2007, it only took a year for Orlando to be arrested for drug possession and a DUI in 2008. He racked up a few more DUIs in the following years, and has since shied away from the Hollywood spotlight.
Famous for his role as the little boy who could see dead people on The Sixth Sense, Haley Joel Osment was involved in a vehicle accident in 2006. He later plead no contest to DUI and a misdemeanor drug possession. Since then he has returned to acting, both on-screen and in video games.
Aside from Lindsay Lohan, Justin Bieber is another child star who is often viewed as wild and reckless. While he had several incidents with the law, from noisy parties to fighting, he was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving back in early 2014. While he allegedly told officers that he had been drinking and taking drugs, the toxicology report showed that he had marijuana and prescription drugs in his system. The case was settled with a plea bargain for resisting arrest, and Justin Bieber attended anger management and did community service for his crimes. While he’s done his service, it hasn’t prevented this young singer from obtaining a “bad boy” reputation as a result.
Amanda Bynes is famous for her career on the early 2000s children’s shows All That, The Amanda Show, and Figure It Out , but she’s become infamous for her odd behavior starting in 2012. Most of her bad behavior was caught while she was behind the wheel. She was charged with a DUI in 2012 after side-swiping a police car, but it was dropped in 2014 for reckless driving instead. In later 2012 she was caught driving with a suspended license and her car was impounded. Since then, Amanda has undergone psychiatric evaluations and has been out of the spotlight for now.
Shia LaBeouf is both an esteemed actor, but with a few bad run-ins with the law. In 2008 he was involved in a vehicle accident, where the officer claimed to smell alcohol on his breath. Shia refused a breathalyzer and was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. He was cleared later. Shia has since become almost detached from his fame, but still maintains his acting craft.
In 2011, the Hannah Montana star was pulled over on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was given a field sobriety test and breathalyzer test. He was found to be above the legal limit. Despite being underage, (he was 20 at the time), he was given 36 months of probation, and forced to pay a fine and attend an alcohol education class. He has turned his life around and continued acting, and gave a very repentant statement following the incident.
