Independence Day is a fantastic time to celebrate our country with our families and fireworks. It’s a time for parties and merry-making, but these gatherings often include alcohol as well. Unfortunately, this happy time is also when many more drunk driving accidents occur, as party-goers under the influence step behind the wheel, without thinking of the consequences.
But in Southern Arizona, a local task force is hoping to prevent these from happening by teaming up with a well-known ride-sharing service: Uber.
The Tucson Police Department Impaired Driver Enforcement Unit is just one team that’s a part of the Southern Arizona DUI Task Force. Recently, they announced that they would be partnering with Uber to provide free or discounted rides for customers on Monday, July 4, 2016.
Uber is offering a promotional code for first-time riders with $15 off their first ride. The task force’s promo code is the NODUITUCSON. For existing riders in Tucson, Uber is offering two free rides for up to $10 each, with the promo code SAFE4THETUS.
In addition, more DUI checkpoints will be set up and additional officers deployed to deter or investigate any potential impaired driving situations.
While Uber is offering these free rides, it does require that customers download the app and create an account. If you cannot download the app, there are other methods of getting home safely this Fourth of July:
